So true sadly. Its honest and trust me peeps, I have seen them all as a pastor that's why this post is so funny. You have missed the one that starts, "we the mature"... And ends "we have to be fed, or don't focus on the needy so much"Personal growth is a personal responsibility!!
Maybe you need to put a disclaimer on!!

To be offended at this list is a little strange. There is so much real world experience with these quotes. Rather than getting our defenses up we should search our hearts.
Many times people have a buffet mentality when it comes to church, this is not a healthy thing

Mike

Hey it's ok to make fun of other people, we're pastors! The rest of you who are offended obviously aren't leaders like we are!

That is some of the most ridiculous logic I have ever seen pride come up with.

Esteem others higher than yourselves "pastors". Whatever happened to the servant leader? Since when is it cool to joke about others as if you guys are better than they? What's worse...their consumer mentality or your arrogance and lack of humility under the cover of "you wouldn't understand unless you were a pastor like we are"?

Yohan Perera

Hi,

I agree with you. I don't see the exact list repeating at churches, but the list is repeated in many different ways.

Specially I am very cautious when people come to me and make the statement,

“My old church/pastor was…”

Phil

Heard 'em all, been hurt by some, ignored others. Love the list. True, sad and hilarious at the same time. After 30+ years of hard work in the ministry, the idealism of my 20's gave way to the trench work of my 30's, the pressure of the 40's and now the reality of being 50! Cynicism that doesn't turn into burned out bitterness is a lot more fun than denial and dogmatic idealism. I think a sense of humor is a non-negotiable over the long haul of ministry. Call me a heretic. The hoppers have called me way worse names! :)

Brian

I think this was funny. Anyone who doesn't like this is probably the person that does all that stuff...

church

this is really tru lols

Non Church Hopper

can we look at this topic from another angle. Has it ever occured to you that some Pastors might be the cause of someone leaving the church?
The bible says touch not my annointed, do my prophet no harm! if a pastor is so arrogant and believes he does everything right, how can a committed member talk about him/her when they know the consequence (especially when the pastor will think you are against him). It is better if you cannot resolve an issue to leave the church and get healed (that might be the reason for "looking for a church that teaches the Word" or "I just need time to be fed" because one is tired and burnout from church politics)

In my opinion, people move for various reasons and that list i'm afraid is so narrow minded and lame!

Elizabeth

As a pastor's wife, this list is "right on!" To those who don't understand the Top Ten List, you haven't yet experienced the hurt and pain of ministry, or you're not directly involved in ministry. This list is for Pastors/Leaders, not for any one else. I get it and so do most Pastors. Thanks for sharing this. It's great to know we're not alone in trying to grow disciples in the way we are called to do so!

Greatfeatures

And the beat goes on.

I so love this list! LOL! Came across it when doing a search for "10 things wrong with churches". (I wrote an article on the subject and wanted to see where it fell in the search results - http://orderinthechurch.wordpress.com/2011/04/05/10things/). I'm a consultant to pastors, and lifelong churchgoer, and I cannot argue with one line from this article. It's so true!

last one...RIGHT ON!!!!

Good Day To You Sis. Bing (#1), *Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour*(Titus 1.4, 1Cor.1.3, 2Cor.1.2, Gal.1.3, Eph.1.2, Philippianes 1.2)
Thanks Sincerely Appreciated /Action (There are problems on this view of "Church Jumpers/Hoppers" doctrine:

(1). It will inflict outright discrimination...
(2). It will put attendees in a very embarrassing & humiliating situation...
(3). it will cause animosity and inhibitions to the body of Christ in general (i.e. especially those people that comes from different churches, denominations, sects, factions, beliefs, traditions/customs, colour/race, creed, etc.,)...
(4). Hence, the "Church Jumpers/Hoppers" Doctrine is NOT from God but of the Devil (John 8:44, 10:10, 1Timothy 4:1). And besides, we have NO time to inform the Pope in Vatican City-Rome, the Imams in Afghanistan, the Dalai Lama in Nepal, etc., about their flocks “Jumping from their fence” unto the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Acts 26:18, 1Peter 2:9, John 10:16)…
(5). That “Jumpers” doctrine might look good in the surface but if we look deeper at the "impact" of it... is so terrible & defiling!!! (Matthew 7:13, Proverbs 14:12, 16:25-30, Mark 7:18-23)....

(6). As true believers of Christ, we have to be very vigilant & watchful (1Peter 5:8-9, Revelation 3:2, Matthew 26:41). Because at times, we are easily “picking-up-things-without-thinking” or discerning. (1 Corinthians 12:10, Hebrews 5:13-14) and unknowingly, some people may smile with courtesy but inwardly (i.e. at the back of their minds) assumed we are “Pharisaical-Hypocrites” (Matthew 23:13, Mark 7:6-8, Galatians 2:13)…

(7). Therefore, it is wisely recommended, that this poisonous “Church-Jumpers-Hoppers” doctrine be removed from our minds and lips (Matthew 7:6, Mark 4:24, Roma.2:1, 2Corinthians 10:4-5, Mark 16:18, Proverbs 18:21, James 3:1-8). Let’s occupy till the Lord comes (Luke 19:13 KJV) and be stronger in the Lord in wisdom & knowledge proclaiming the glorious gospel of the Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ(Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-20, Acts 1:8, Roma. 1:16, Acts 26:18, Eph. 6:10-18)…

(I). Actually it's NOT blown out of proportion, but rather applying a healthy and biblical-Apologetics conversation (1Peter 3:15 Apologian (Phil.1:7, 17, 1Cor.9:3) to be thoroughly equipped, complete, and proficient in every good work (2Timothy 3:16-17, Eph. 4:11-13) by speaking the truth in love (Eph. 4:15-16, 1Cor. 13:1-3) for edification that brings glory and honour to the Head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ (Col. 1:18, Eph.5:23):
(II). It’s double-standard if we set two parameters on this issue for Christians vs. non-christians (Matthew 5:37, James 5:12). God does not show partiality (Acts 10:34, Rom 2:11, James 2:1-9, 3:17). In fact, all of us came from different churches or religion whom the “light of Christ” shown and delivered us unto HIM (1Peter 2:9, Acts 26:18). The JLCC did NOT call or inform the Pastor/Leadership of the previous Church or Religion (e.g. Hills Church where my family used to attend).
(III). WE cannot prevent anyone who does NOT want to stay in a “church” regardless of any reason, because that is a clear “coercion, manipulation, and intimidation (i.e. against his/her will) hence, against the law of God and man (Psalm 23, John 10:27-29, 1Peter 5:1-5). Calling or tagging anyone as “church jumper/hoppers” is an “offence” and a form of “slander” to an individual regardless of race/colour, tradition/customs, creed, etc., This ignorant attitude ought not to be so for Christians (James 3:10, Matthew 12:36-37) Let NO corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers (Eph.4:29 NKJV). Besides, courtesy departure from a church is ONLY applicable for people who are holding an office, ministerial work, elders, deacons, etc., who must be professionally enough to give a courtesy call that they are leaving the church and going to another which is NOT applicable for church attendees?!?... The bottom line is; that individual reserves the liberty to leave the church…and that’s “freedom” or “democracy”
(IV). Finally, let’s just pursue what is that good and pleasing to the Lord (Philippianes 4:8) and show the real LOVE of GOD to the people around us without hypocrisy. Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking (1Peter 2:1, Romans 12:9-10). By these, ALL people will know that we belong to Christ, if we have LOVE to another as Christians.(John 13:34-35, John 15:11-12, 1Corinthains 13:1-13) Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God (Romans 15:7, 14:1 NIV).
